We got to go to the lake over the weekend. I knew something was up when I saw Daddy packing my bowls and some food for me. I never really know where we're going, but I KNOW we're going somewhere, and truthfully, it doesn't matter where we're going, as long as I get to go. I watch them intently, never taking my eyes off them, waiting for that phrase I know so well ... "C'mon Maizie, let's go for a ride!" ... I think all I really hear is "go" .. that's all it takes. I'm THERE.
Got to the cabin, and ... well ... we dogs outnumbered the humans. Let's see, I may have to use all my paws to tell you how many there were ... 3 weinie dogs ... 5 chihuahuas ... and me. I was so excited to see them, but all they did was growl and snap at me, then jump up into their Mommy's laps and shake like they were really cold. I kept trying to get to know them, but they weren't having it. Uncle Emo lit a really nice fire outside and 2 of the snobby Dachsunds started chasing each other around the fire .. I tried to join in, but they snubbed me. I looked so sad. I think Mommy and Daddy were a little perturbed, but anytime I passed by them, they gave me an extra pat and hug. I really scored during dinner, too! I don't think the Chihuahuas get much food from the table ...
I couldn't wait to get back home to Mr. Shitz ... of course he was waiting at the back gate for me. :)

Cucumber Salsa
Mommy's Cucumber Salsa is a big hit ... it's requested often and she has shared her recipe more times than I've gone outside today! (and that's a lot, considering I have my own doggy door) She lets me try it sometimes and I sure do like it. I'm sure she wouldn't mind if I share it with you, so here it is:
Cucumber Salsa
cucumbers (2 large or 3 medium)
bell peppers (1 green, 1 red, 1 orange)
purple onion (1 medium)
tomatoes (2 medium)
jalapeno (1) (remove seeds for less heat)
Taragon or apple cider vinegar
dry Ranch Dressing mix
Dice all vegetables and place in large bowl. In small bowl, whisk together 1/2 to 3/4 cup vinegar and dressing mix until no more lumps. Drizzle over diced vegetables. Fold vegetables to mix well. Refrigerate over night. Serve with tortilla chips. (Mommy likes to use the Tostito Scoops)
OH! Mommy asked me to tell you that this makes a pretty big batch, so you could half it if you want.
Woohoo! Almost dinnertime ... I wonder what they're fixing. Sure does smell good in here!
